The Veterans Canteen Service (VCS) located at the Chicago, IL, VA Medical Center is seeking a full-time Lead Food Service Worker to provide quality service to our nation's veterans. Major Duties and Responsibilities: The Lead Food Service Worker (coffee) has responsibility for the control of the day-to-day operations of a coffee shop. Preparing beverages, providing customer service, and performing administrative tasks. Espresso preparation, milk frothing techniques, and coffee brewing methods, under the general instructions of the Canteen Chief. Responsibilities include: Ordering food and supplies Learning to cover all the different stations as needed to endure a smooth-running department and cover breaks when needed Keeping food storage areas clean and organized per sanitation standards, Receiving/inventorying/ordering food orders and putting them away timely per VCS standards Working with staff to ensure all sanitation standards are met and documented properly daily on production sheets and other logs per VCS sanitation standards are met and documented properly daily on production sheets and other logs per VCS sanitation standards. Ability to lead Food Service Worker staff with enthusiasm and great customer service Will be subjected to hot and cold temperatures. Knowledge and experience of proper food handling, sanitation principles, proper dating/FIFO, and temperature monitoring to safeguard food against spoilage and waste. Ability to organize daily tasks Ability to develop and train in a mentor capacity. Requires constant standing, walking, and frequent bending.
